Exercise For Depression
Depression is fickle because to get out of it you have to change what you are doing. However, depression tends to take away your motivation for doing things. This is a horrific “Catch 22” that causes people to remain in a funk for longer than you would like.
When I was depressed I felt like I couldn’t move off the couch aside from doom scrolling through social media. My mind was so exhausted from thinking about how to get myself out of depression, but I was so stressed from my depression I was unable to see clearly.
So I decided to exercise everyday. That way, no matter what happened that day I did something positive. This can be a solid foundation for anyone that doesn’t know how to dig themselves out of the hole they feel like they are stuck in. It helped move me forward and started the momentum to move past the difficult time I was going through.
Can you start with 30 minutes of physical activity? A good 30 minute walk can do wonders for your mindset along with your physical well being. Is there a sport you like to play or would like to try? Are there weight exercises that are enjoyable to you so you can get stronger? Just find the right fit for you and move!
It is funny that lifting weights over a period of time will make you physically stronger, but it will do wonders for strengthening your mental will as well. Just be consistent, because it is better to work out for 10 minutes each and every day then for one hour once a week. The math maths.
